Empowering Lives, Keeping Families Together!
Empowering Lives, Keeping Families Together!
Excessive alcohol consumption and drugs use has both direct and indirect effects on the poverty status of individuals, families, and the entire community. The economic consequences of alcohol consumption are particularly severe for the poor. It has negative impacts on the achievement of the key human development outcomes on education, health, and nutrition, and is a key driver and maintainer of chronic poverty. The youth project empowers the youth by connecting them to opportunities through education, capacity building, skills training, and resource mobilization. Investing in a generation to help youth lift themselves out of poverty and destructive behavior.
SATRA Kenya provides prevention education free of charge to schools, churches, and community groups, targeted at parents, caregivers, older adults, youth and students. We work closely with medical and other professionals on the front line of the drugs epidemic in Central Kenya region to educate individuals regarding the early signals and symptoms of substance use disorders. Our program will empower first-responders to immediately recognize signs of trouble and initiate plans of action to help save lives.
Our prevention staff provides age-appropriate substance use disorder programs to primary, and high school students in public and private schools, and colleges using a model that reinforces self-confidence, positive messaging, and positive peer pressure.Using abusable substances can disrupt brain function in areas critical to motivation, memory, learning, judgment, and behaviour control. So, it is not surprising that use of alcohol and other drugs often have family and social problems, poor academic and work performance, health-related problems (including mental health), risky behaviour and involvement with the justice system. Abuse of and addiction to alcohol, tobacco, heroin, and illicit and prescription drugs cost Kenyans dearly every year in increased health care costs, crime, HIV infections, lost productivity and deaths. When you look into the face of an addict it’s impossible to know their suffering and agony.
SATRA Kenya links the affected with health and rehabilitation facilities and support top quality treatment by providing scholarships to individual treatment centres nationwide.
Advocacy We partner with other key influencers on local, county, and national levels to help shatter the stigmas associated with addiction. Our initiatives intervene across all the 6 stages of Addiction and Recovery i.e. misuse, abuse, addiction, contemplation, action and recovery stages.
